Cutec is to try and overcome the randomness and awkwardness inherent in large event networking by providing delegates at this year’s Technology Ventures Conference (TVC 2011) with a mobile phone-based tool that helps delegates locate each other, arrange meetings and even alert them when selected delegates arrive at the venue.
In a deal struck with Yasmo Live, Cambridge University’s Technology and Enterprise Club (Cutec), will provide the innovative conference networking application to the 400 expected attendees.

This provides a list on their phones of other conference delegates with photos as well as diary and note tools so they can arrange meetings and follow-ups post-conference.
The photos are an important element as these are what help delegates recognise each other having not met, eliminating potentially embarrassing covert badge reading.
The app also has a voting tool that ties into the conference and TVC 2011 delegates will have the option of using it to select the five startups to pitch before a panel of investors. Pen and paper will be on hand too as the Yasmo Live app is only currently available on the iPhone.
